African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) in partnership with Johannesburg City Parks proudly launches Nelson Mandela International Day 2011 in Alexandra

African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) in partnership with Johannesburg City Parks is proud and honoured to launch the City’s Nelson Mandela International Day 2011 programme in Alexandra by planting 100 indigenous trees. Included in the days’ events is the extension of colourful birthday messages on decorated pebbles to Madiba, as well as the sharing of a birthday cake with children from the iKhaya Lomusa Orphanage in Alexandra.

ARM has donated R300 000-00 (250 trees) to fund the Johannesburg City Parks programme which will aim to green parks along the Jukskei River in Alexandra, as part of the company’s Mandela Day contributions, and to uplift communities in need.

Mangisi Gule, the Chief Executive of ARM Coal together with employees from the Company will join the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Infrastructure and Environment, Counsellor Roslyn Greeff, and employees from Johannesburg City Parks in planting the first phase of 100 trees along Jukskei Park. They will be supported by learners from adjacent schools, dignitaries from the City and ward committee representatives.

Patrice Motsepe, the Executive Chairman of ARM said, �We are honoured to pay tribute to Madiba, the icon and father of our democracy, and to be part of Nelson Mandela International Day 2011.

�We can only hope that our small gesture today will one day have a meaningful impact on the community in Alexandra. It is an honour for us to be associated with this global movement which is based on the principal of acts of goodwill in communities throughout the world.�
